Predict the future by creating it

There's this fallacy that you can't influence the future. That's backwards. What you cannot change or influence is the past. The future has yet to be written so whatever decision you make now, no matter how seemingly infinitesimally small will affect that, yet to be written future. How come you say. Nothing I do affects the future. Er, wrong, everything you do affects the future, well your future. Come out of your apartments and turn right instead of turning left and your future will be different. You might not be able to identify the difference but your actions created your future. Yes, your decisions are that powerful. Don't waste them. Think that every choice you make will affect the future that you have just unknowingly written no matter how seemingly insignificant.

I'm an engineer by profession, a structural engineer. I think I should have been an architect but the world dodged that particular bullet! I always use this seemingly innocuous example. As an Architect you devise where to put a park bench. Simple you say. But does it face this way, or that way?. Because this simple decision will determine the experience of those who sit there. With your decision you have changed in an infinitesimally small way the future of those who sit. The consequences of this might never be of significance, but you will never know. The decision you made might have had a major impact on someone and you will never know

You only have one life, use it to the full.

How often have you overheard a conversation or seen a post on social media expressing regret? Too often would be my answer. Whomever is expressing regret seems to forget that we are masters of our own destiny. Now, before everyone piles in with “but not all of us have the luxury of choice’ I would say, poppycock. We are thinking creatures. We have the ability to think and to make decisions and take action based on these thoughts and decisions. There is noting stopping anyone of us from doing what we truely want to. The only restraint is motivation. No, it's not a lack of funds, it's not lack of opportunity, it is fundamentally a lack of motivation. There are many examples (but regrettably far too few) of individuals accomplishing extraordinary things with the most limited of resources, but they found a way. Their motivation pulled them along.

These people didn't sit on their heels and say, can't be done, too difficult or any other of the myriad of excuses that are banded about as justification for not doing something. If the motivation is there the results will follow

  1. There is only one true regret in life and that is the regret of not doing something.

  2. No Regrets

  3. No second chances to make a good first impression

  4. Just Do It

Random Thoughts on Life

Unapologetically Caustic and Irreverent Musings on Life.

These are all pretty random. I thought of categorizing them but then that would imply order, hierarchy if you will. There is no order, there is no heirachy. That's the whole point. These are totally random thoughts and observations
